NOTES FROM THE GM
Hello again… Since the last Newsletter we have seen a shift in the global economy. I’ve got to say that I believe that here in the UK we have talked our way into a recession. This was aided by the extensive coverage we see in today’s media driven world. The power of today’s media moguls is something to behold!
From a Blagdon perspective, orders have remained steady. Having a global network on partners certainly helps in tough times. We are positioned from a strategic and tactical deployment standpoint to deal with negative changes in the economy like we are seeing. This is a testament to the lean principles employed by the team here at Blagdon, IDEX AODD and of course our up and downstream partners. Aiding us along the way is the strength of the £GBP against other currencies. It’s much more cost effective to buy Blagdon for a lot of people right now. As Distributors, are you taking advantage of this?
We move into 2009 having built robust plans with our major partners despite the tough times we are living in right now. To help this we need to accelerate the use of our value selling techniques and your IDEX Regional Manager/Blagdon office should be able to help you with this. This is the best way to attain new business, take market share and maximise your return. People are looking for the best deal that they can get right now, use this to your advantage; help yourself and the End User.
We appreciate all the hard work done on our behalf by our partners in 2008 and long may it continue in 2009. Your association with Blagdon is valued by everyone here in the UK and within IDEX.

PUMP CLINIC
ELASTOMER WEAR EFFECTS
The Valve Balls pictured on the right are from a pump which had stopped running during a test. The ball in the centre with the blue dot is a new part to show the degree of wear. All elastomers will wear to certain extents during the life of the pump, producing various symptoms and effects. The pump in question had stopped with full air pressure connected to the Valve. No air was being expelled from the exhaust or from elsewhere on the equipment. The pump was in effect, “Hydraulically Locked”.
What had happened ? :- the Valve Balls shown had worn and become jammed in the Valve Seats, on both the Suction and Discharge ports, on the same side of the pump. Pressure air is entering the Valve Block and the diaphragm shaft is centralised, there is no route to exhaust on the pilot side of the air valve, so the pump sits there, doing absolutely nothing.
The “mains air” supply must be disconnected and pressure bled away from the Valve Block, Discharge and Suction manifolds before attempting any maintenance on the pump.
The fluid path through this side of the pump is hydraulically locked. Any attempt to remove or loosen any pipe work or manifolds will result in fluid being expelled at high pressure from the pump. This is a potentially dangerous situation if the pump has been handling a hazardous liquid. Blagdon Pump take every possible opportunity to warn and advise of any situations which could result in hazardous working conditions.
Please read all manuals, safety warnings and instructions before operating any Blagdon equipment.
